IPM TO LAUNCH DISTANCE LEARNING VERSION OF THE INTRODUCTORY DIPLOMA IN PLACE MANAGEMENT

In March 2012 the Institute of Place Management (IPM) will launch a distance learning version of the Introductory Diploma in Place Management following considerable demand from UK based, and international, Place Managers!

Designed to support those who are new to the place management industry or need their skills refreshing, the Introductory Diploma in Place Management is designed to help people understand the practicalities of making places better. Developed in partnership with the Manchester Metropolitan University and the Association of Town Centre Management, the Institute of Place Management Diploma covers a multitude of important elements every place manager should know:

• Use of the core principles of marketing to develop a ‘stakeholder’ focus;

• Trends affecting places, communities and partnerships;

• Development of managerial style;

• Management of information and communication of objectives;

• Planning and managing resources and people;

• Effective co-operative working; and

• Health, safety and quality in relation to place.

Professor Cathy Parker, IPM Director comments;

“This method of delivery will allow flexible study and will suit all manner of learning styles as long as a student has access to a computer and the internet then they can study the course.”

The course entitles students to 12 months FREE Associate membership of the IPM providing access to further continuing professional development opportunities, such as the Journal of Place Management & Development and CPD-Mail, and the designatory letters 'AIPM' to indicate professional status.

Matthew Powell, IPM Introductory Diploma Graduate 2010 comments;

“The IPM introductory Diploma in Place Management made me think in greater detail than ever before about how I do my job. I am certain that I have learnt many new skills that I will be able to bring back to my local centre and apply in real life. Being able to go through the course with 10 colleagues from Birmingham meant that the course was really tailored to our needs and we were able to all share experiences and learn from each other to the benefit of many local centres across Birmingham.”
